Yesterday: Ate In-n-Out (FINALLY!!!), chillaxed, then went to meet Lily and SB folks at Dave & Busters. Exciting: patron shots, sampler appetizer for dinner, skeeball, 124 tickets and southern accents. Bad: ran out of gas as I exited Balboa. Sharon and I were like, WHAT DO WE DO and my voice got shaky because I was scared. But I just walked ten feet to the gas station and a random AAA man...

annual family vacation
Last year my coworkers and I went around in a circle sharing Christmas traditions. Everyone shared sentimental stories of baking cookies with grandma, gathering round a fire and exchanging gifts. The only Christmas tradition in my family is going to Las Vegas. Yeehaw. For the past ten years or so, Christmas has revolved around my mom who was born on Christmas Eve, and her love for Las Vegas. We...

monday
The SB Glamour Girls had a Christmas gift exchange and sleepover. Liz’s dad named us the SB Glamour Girls. Not because we’re glamorous, but because we’re meaty. As in fat. With that I began the day at Milk with Jenny, a slice of blue velvet cake and coffee. Yum, the blueberries were a nice surprise and we left wearing blue tinged smiles. Then we headed to the grove for some...

sunday
Man it sure is hard keeping up with blogging. But I know it’s worth it in the end. So going back to church today was wonderful! I got so many hugs and it felt like no time had passed in some respects…and it felt like world’s had changed in other respects. Five women who weren’t pregnant before, are now pregnant. Anderson can count to 100 and count backwards from 10. He...

saturday
My time in LA has been on speed. Cracked out playing. Here we go. Dropped by Euni’s and they were making mandoo and I thought it was so fun. This is when I couldn’t figure out how to open the gas tank on my mom’s new car and had to call my parents. I was pressing lots of buttons and suddenly the trunk was opening and it was generally an embarrassing disaster.  Best salad in...

I LOVE LA!
I’m never leaving this place! Except when I have to go back for school. Hehe. When I got back, it felt like I never left. I was so excited to see people of every color and nationality speaking their different tongues. I barely made it to Property on Friday. And briefing what felt like the longest case of all time before class took more will power than I thought I had. I even fell asleep for...

the home stretch
Winter break is so close it hurts. I am 6 classes, 1 memo and a few fun festivities away from home. I am really excited to see familiar faces and places.  I plan to beat Prof. Bates and Prof. Osler in foosball tonight and win a free t-shirt. I hope they aren’t that good. Please don’t have any mad skillz. Proceeds go to Mission Waco so that’s extra nice. Then perhaps a freedom...

Why Memo #3 exists (wait for it to load & scroll) →
And why it has been quite the headache. How can 30 words be so disputed? Who strung them together? Bring him to me now! Prof. LARC made it clear from the beginning that he was throwing us to the sharks and we simply had to flail around until we reached a life saver (apparently this makes us learn faster…). Well after floundering, it feels damn good to feel like I’ve hooked my arm on...

baby its cold outside
I bet my car is so mad at me right now. It’s sitting in the freezing cold. Spews white puff when I drive. While Prof. Crimlaw went on and on about mens rea and the different requirements for reckless homicide and negligent homicide, I looked down and noticed the skin on my knuckles had cracked and started to bleed. It is damn cold and damn windy right now. The ground was wet when I got out...

WatchWatch
Here’s one kid I’m definitely going to visit over winter vacation. Every day before dinner one of my students would pray for dinner and then dismiss. Sometimes Jeremy’s prayers would cause me to burst out laughing. This was not one of those times, but I’m glad I made at least one recording. I hope this cheered ya up, friend!

saturday
Wow I did a whole lot of trying to write a memo without actually succeeding today. Sweet. In my attempt to procrastinate I watched “The Dark Knight” (finally!) and a documentary titled, “A Man Named Pearl”. It was so good I almost want to buy it (the documentary). It shares the story of a topiary artist from South Carolina…an homage to a very ordinary man who...

feast
I went running for the first time in nearly 2 years yesterday. It felt fantastic. Then Kana fed me ‘til I was ready to pop. chicken with thai curry.    japanese cheesecake and fruit cake.  I am disgusting. TGIF!

tuesday night adventures
Jess and I went to watch “The Carolers,” a Christmas play. It was relevant and really very good. The singing gave me goose bumps and put me right into the Christmas spirit. The live music made me feel alive and it felt so good. How soothing it is to hear a beautiful voice sing a tune or a musician wield an instrument with such command as to be inspiring. When I listen to live music, I...

bad dream, plans
So. Yesterday I had a dream that I followed around a person that went on a killing rampage. I didn’t stop the person, I just followed them around. They had a medium sized knife and would stab their victim in the right spot and said victim would die without a peep. I think it’s because I watched the entire second season of Dexter recently. I remember thinking that I couldn’t tell...

long day
The 2qs had a long Monday. Thanks to Prof. CrimLaw we started at 8am and finished at 5pm. But you know, I had a good day. I love Property, and I feel like I actually learned something in CrimLaw today, even if it was largely conceptual. The more I learn about the law, the more I come to respect it, and the gladder it makes me to live in these United States. Seriously. Being a student is the best...

law prom
I am back from law prom. Too much booty in mah pants. Teehee.  So. It was great! I just wish I had gone with a date. How was I to know that most people would come with a date! I knew all the married people would come with their spouses, but really, where did all these people get non-law school dates? I guess most people are from Texas so they can holla at they people. Law Prom was held at the...

whataburger
I have had my eye on Whataburger and have been wanting to try it since I moved here. I had never heard of Whataburger before moving here, and see them every other mile in Texas so had to try it. Wasn’t amazing, wasn’t bad, it was decent.  I got the #7, Jr. Whataburger meal and was stuffed by the end. I can’t imagine what the regular sized burger looks like. Every Whataburger...

the holiday
After class I went to the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at Mission Waco’s youth center. The youth center is way cooler than the children’s center but we’ve got swings and tires and a play house so maybe that beats their recording studio. Jigga what? Yeah. It was fun to be on the other end of this volunteer appreciation business after being on the throwing-of-the-shindigs end last...

play
Mission Waco was insane yesterday. Z kept throwing puzzle pieces, dominoes, barbies, checkers, anything he could get his hands on. I was kicking myself for not bringing my camera to capture the madness. The kids made bird feeders in gardening. Pine cones were covered with peanut butter then sprinkled with bird seeds. Christmas break can’t come soon enough. I am seriously having difficulty...
