happy new year!
Happy New Year friends.
2011 was an exciting year for me. PC ended, I flew an airplane for 2 seconds, went climbing outdoors often, got a new sister/my brother got married, graduated from law school, drove through 6 states with Clay, passed the CA bar and transitioned back to life in Los Angeles. But the things I consider my greatest accomplishments are not the things listed above.
One huge change that occurred is with Clay. We really got to see the Lord work in our relationship and that is one of the most exciting things that happened this year. It wasn’t an event or a day so much as the work of many prayers and conversations. It was slow and yet seemed to happen suddenly. Another huge accomplishment God has accomplished in me is my first new years resolution. I decided to take intentional steps towards building a relationship with my mom. After years of bitter resentment that she didn’t ever build a relationship with me, I’ve decided to take responsibility for the absence of a relationship. I’ve decided not to force my parents to accept the way that I live, but instead understand the choices they’ve made. I guess this is part of growing up. Bending out of love instead of forcing my way. Because I do love them. Even though we don’t agree on most things.
Here are my new years resolutions:
1. Take intentional steps to repair your relationship with Ma.
2. Climb a lot. Especially outdoors.
3. Travel outside the state 3x and outside the country 1x.
4. Seek the Lord earnestly in solitude and in others.
5. Get a job as a public interest attorney.
6. Quit being flaky/Don’t overextend yourself.
7. Become a competent ballroom dancer.
8. Gain robust acceptance of Clay by Ma & Pa.
Here’s to the fullness of a brand new year and the grand privilege of living it.
